Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are web-based app that load constantly and still work over not-so-strong network connections, have support for push notifications, a modern UI/UX, and go easy on mobile data in general. But then Twitter Lite, a PWA, came in and put a smile on our faces. Staying online to use Twitter was going to b a challenge because of its constant refresh schedules and the average price of data around the globe. Twitter has been testing its new Windows 10 app with Insiders for a couple of weeks, but with the release of the Windows 10 April 2018 Update that brings support for PWAs, all users running the latest version of Windows 10 should be able to get the new app right away.Twitter is arguably the biggest social media network after Facebook and that comes to us as no surprise since it is clear how it appeals to many users as not just a social site for exchanging photos but also as one to that helps one stay updated with online news and connected to various networking services. The company is working on bringing a night theme for the app in the future, too.
“This release represents a renewed commitment to Windows that has been long overdue and is part of a longer-term strategy to reach greater feature parity to all of our platforms,” Twitter said in a blog post.
The app also packs the bookmarking feature that lets you save tweets for later.Īs for the native Windows 10 features, the new Twitter app works with support for the share sheet, jump lists, live tiles, and more. This includes the 280 character limit for tweets, the revamped Explore tab that also displays tweets from your network and topics you may be interested in. Since the new Twitter experience is based on Twitter’s Lite web app ( ), most of the “modern” Twitter features are here. The company’s new Windows 10 app is built on its Twitter Lite Progressive Web App, with support for most of the native APIs in Windows 10. Twitter is formally launching its new app for Windows 10 devices today.
